Is she a hatchling?

Smuffin Oct 26, 2003 06:14 AM

This is my new Baby.. I just got her and she is my first python. She is 17 inches long. How old do you think she is? I am curious to know if she is a hatchling or a older snake. I have 6 corns and am new to pythons. I am learning alot. She is in shed now and she looks mean. I am kinda scared to hold her while she is in shed. I now have her on aspen bedding and thinking about putting her on cypress bark. Which is better for her? Your help is greatly appreciated.

It's hard to give you an exact age, but if she has been well-fed, at 17" she's probably about 1-2 months old. She could however, also be underfed and be a few months older. I would also refrain from holding her during a shed, she's mostly blind, and can be more agressive. It is also stressful on them to shed, and handling them just adds to the stress.
