KY Show

docric Oct 26, 2003 09:17 AM

I am going to the KY show on the first of November at the Shelby county fairgrounds.
It will a long trip for me, so I hope some of the black rat people will be there. I would like to bring my snake but I have to stay in a hotel room two nights, and that would be too much to put him through.

It would be nice to meet people that only show up as an email address.

If you are on the fence about attending, please come. I might be in the market for some young normal female obsoletta, but would love to see other color morphs there.

Just a little point.
I don't mean to be rude or condescending or anything like that.
But, Please do not take your snake to shows.
There are too many chances to contaminate not only your own snake but every animal at a show.
One animal could be the factor in contamintaing 100's even 1000's of animals without anyone's knowledge as to how it happened or where it originated.
I know we are all proud of our animals and love any chance we can get to show them off but unless you are selling at the show and keep your animals as isolated as possible at a show, it is best to leave them at home.
Take photos to show your animals.
I have only attended one show, and not as a vendor, so you may think "he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about" but just start asking breeders and vendors if they would prefer to see your animals or have you leave them at home. I think you will find they prefer you leave them at home.
There are quite a few that will not even let you handle their animals at the shows. You pay you play, otherwise they stay in their displays.

Well said draybar.

Also isn't illegal to take animals from the wild in Tennessee docric?

Hey Docric
How are ya doin? Great here. I will be attending the show on the 1st. Dwight Good will probably be attending with his normal show of snakes. I havent seen too many normal black rats, but there usually are white-sided, albino's, and other color morphs. I would love to see that little guy you have, but understand the stay at the hotel would be too much.

I will be there sometime sat morning, usually hanging out at Dwights table or the Kentuckiana Herp Society table. I dont know if Phil Peak will be there or not. Phil??

Take care and chat at you later.

I'll be there as a vendor, but don't expect to see any normal balck rats......they are illegal to sell in Ky.

You really need to check your facts. It is not illegal to sell black rat snakes in Kentucky as you claim.

This is how bad rumors get started. Check your facts.

Beardonicus Oct 27, 2003 07:51 PM

It IS illegal to sell normal black rats with a permit. Sorry about the confusion.
