Am i getting ripped off?

cito Oct 26, 2003 11:32 AM

Im trying to find a baby burmese python and out of the 5 local petstores, only one of them has one. So I went to the store today and they had a $250.00 Albino Burmese. It was about 2 feet long. Is that way over priced? It seemed like it to me. I wasnt really looking for an albino anyways, so i was wondering if any of you knew a good, reliable, website online that i could buy a healthy baby burmese at a good price. Thanks

Go to the kingsnake.com classifieds and look in "pythons". There are many cheap albinos being offered by reputable people. You can likely get one shipped for 100 or 125

You can also go to kingsnake.com (events)to see when the next reptile expo is in your area. You may have to drive an hour or so but it would be worth it.

Yeah that's a bit expensive, but it is a pet store and they do have bills to pay. With that said, I can't say that they are "ripping you off." You could definitely get the snake for cheaper on KS.com. If you go with a reputable breeder, I'm 99% sure that you won't get an ill snake. Can't really 100% guarantee temperament though. I say if you love the snake in the pet store and it's in great shape and has the disposition that you're looking for, then get it. Saving $50-100 dollars won't mean much after you have been feeding that guy over the years. Not to mention the housing costs. Oh, one caveat, if it's Petsmart or a big chain, don't give them your business!

Because they have a price of 250.00 doesn't mean your being ripped off. They have costs so pet stores are always going to have higher prices.
Being ripped off is buying something under false pretenses.
If i sell a normal baby burmese for 400.00 and some one buys it, they weren't ripped off in the true sense of the word. They chose to pay my asking price.
Either fing a seller in the classifieds (there are many reliable ones) or go to a show where you will get to see and inspect the snakes being offered.
If your not patient enough to do a transaction on line those are your options.
By the way, you can pay for a snake on monday and recieve it on tuesday via via paypal, bidpay and others..
