QUESTION ON BREEDING MY BALL PYTHONS

JMILLR2101 Oct 26, 2003 02:04 PM

I HAVE A MALE AND FEMALE BALL PYTHON THAT I JUST PUT TOGETHER LAST NIGHT. WHEN I WOKE UP THIS MORNING THEY WERE INTERLOCKED IN A SEXUAL MANNER. WHAT SHOULD I DO BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT THE MALE WAS TOO YOUNG AND NEVER CHANGED THE TEMP OR LIGHTING FOR EITHER ONE, MUCH LESS KEPT RECORDS OF TEMPATURE HIGHS AND LOWS? ALSO HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO GET AN INCUBATOR AND WHAT CAN I DO TO READY THE FEMALE FOR THE EGG LAYING PROCESS? SHOULD I LEAVE THE MALE IN WITH THE FEMALE FOR THE WHOLE THING? ANY FEEDBACK WILL BE VERY HELPFULL BECAUSE I'M VERY INTERESTED IN RAISING THE BABIES.

You'll get 10x more replies if you don't type in capital letters. Its the equivalent of yelling. And most people don't respond to yelling.

Make sure the female has a warm spot of 90 degrees or so during the day and about 80 at night. Also make sure she has a cool end of the cage where she can get away from the heat. Keep her temps as I just described until around April 1.

Leave the male with her for a few days until they slow down. Separate him for a week or so (you can feed both then, then re-introduce him. Keep doing this all winter/spring. Around April 1, warm up your girl so her hot area is 90 day and night. With a little luck, soon after she will ovulate (Swell up huge like she's eaten a huge meal). A month later she will shed. A month after her shed she'll lay.

As you can see, it's a long process...but worth the wait.

GOOD LUCK!

Christy
