I caught my little green anole sleeping the other day and she was actually green (except her tail) for the first time in the several months she's been with me. She's the one who is chronically brown. I shifted temperatures up a couple of degrees a while back to see if maybe she was too cold, but it made no difference whatsoever. At least now I know she isn't some poor color freak who CAN'T turn green. I guess she just doesn't *want* to.

Green anoles can't control their color when they are asleep, so they defaul to their natural color green.

I have also had a little girl anole who never seemed to be a true green, more like a soft brownish green, but is VERY green while she is sleeping (but she eats well and has a big belly and does every thign else normal so I leave her be). Guess that just means that sleeping doesn't cause stress.

So if they are brown all day and green at night, it still means there is something stressing them out, they just can't control their color while asleep and actually look normal then.
