Any one in Cali near any of the many fires burning?

Charm_Paradise Oct 26, 2003 04:18 PM

Hi-

I am in San Diego, CA and the sky looks like a nuclear bomb went off reddish/yellow sky. It is snowing ash everywhere, and the smoke is VERY bad. I am VERY lucky I did not leave ANY of my chameleons outside last night, or I am sure I would have a few dead ones if not all of them from the smoke. There are fires with in a few miles of my place, but if all goes well they should not reach me, there is a fire break with the many high ways near by. Good luck to anyone in or near any of the fires, it is hell right now! The worst part is most of our extra fire trucks, helicopters, and planes are up north in another fire. Best of luck!

P.S.-

There is a total of 4 diffrent fires with in San Diego and no END in sight as of now!

john i'm about 35-40 miles from the "old/grand prix" fire(they have become one)my parents and their friends keep a cabin in crestline but haven't been able to get up there. i not sure that it matters though, listens to the radio it says the unoffical report is 100 homes lost in crestline alone. if you have never been there the town is comparable to julian down in your area(very small town). fire officals say that will NOT be able to save the town.

this is really screwed up! i have been all over the san berdo forest and they place is very very dry. hiked, ridden my ATV out there, camped hunted. the place is absolutely my second home and some jackass that gets his kicks watching things burn as destroyed it!

they have been trying now for 2 years to get help from the state and just this year got some funding to clear dead or dying trees caused from the drought or the bark beatle. it has ben estimated that 2/3 of the foest is infect or dying from the beatle! NOW the state is
paying attention...big fat thanks for nothing!

last year forestry officals closed our entire local mountains for 3 or 4 months because they were afraid of a fire just like this one. as it is now the entire forest is closed again, hopefully we will have something to go back to. pray for arrowhead it's not for from crestline!

are they convinced it was intentioanlly set? I heard one report that a hunter who was in trouble sent up a flare or am I confusing the LA fire with the SD one?

the fire started by the distressed hunter is in san diego. the fires we have here in the inland emepire stretch from la verne to now yucaipa! the two original fires here, the "grand prix" and the "old" are both arson.

If you are a deep load of sh** with the fires (i.e. have to abandon your house) and your chams run the risk of dying a terrible death I would be more than happy to TEMPORARILY house your chams on a limited basis. You would have to bring them up to Santa Barbara but I have at least enough room to take on an extra 20-25 cages on a short term basis. Obviously it would be pretty cramped but it is better than them sucking in ash and smoke or whatever. I have an outside balcony that gets a solid 5 hrs of direct sunshine plus I have plenty of available space in my house. I don't want anything in return except reimbursement for food your chams eat. See the pics I have posted, I know what I am doing and your chams would be well taken care of. Just trying to help out people in need due to the carelessness of some jerk-offs. If I was in a similar position it would be awesome for someone to help me, so you got to help where you can.

Sincerly,
Matt Jillson

I just wanted to say how nice that is of you to offer. I hope they catch the jerks that started those fires. It's rediculous that some idiot on a rampage can cause such a huge loss of property and life.

Matt-

Thanks for the offer! The VERY strong Santa Ana winds were blowing hot ambers for miles and there was a brush fire right near the local high school in my area. Lucky for the people in the area and 2 of the major news stations they put that spot fire out in time. Even if it did reach us ALL the high ways were closed yesterday, both ways so there was no way out of my area. you can only move south! Best of luck to all!

hey John,

I was just listening to the radio and they said b/c the winds are high many of the firebreaks may prove fruitless. Not to scare you - just what I heard. There are also fires in LA! Hope others kept their chams inside, too!!!

i live at the beach and i could smell the fire and there was ashed all over my car that just shows how crazy this fire is

jusmebabe Oct 27, 2003 05:33 PM

Good luck to you guys. Fortunately i live on the central coast and don't have to deal with fires, floods, tornadoes, huricanes heat waves and anything else. The worst we get is a earthquake but we haven't ahd a major one since i think '96..

yes i live near the val verde/simi valley fire, couldnt goto work today. because a fire is about 5 miles from house. but getting my animals shouldnt be too bad, im pretty much ready to go. i'll put my cham in the small cage if i have to go, food for her, i have about 15 silkworms, nice and fat, so no worries there, but i will leave only if they make me. on saturday i was at work in simi valley when the val verde fire enterd the valley, the smoke gave the sunlight a "red" tint, it crossed the 118 freeway about 5:00 maybe earlier, but what's finny is, boeing's rocket test lab is in santa susana pass, where the fire is located now, and they have rocket fuel, liquid oxygen, liquid helium(which wont burn unless mixed with soemthing), not mention a small nueclear vault, with some radioactive materials, i hope that stuff doesnt go up....sorty to paint a grim picture
