I'm not down there, but I hope everything is OK at your end. My sister's in-laws live in Fontana (she is in San Clemente), and I guess the fire is bad in that area. It's very, very dry up here, too, and still pretty hot, but so far no major fires, just smaller brush ones. The people in the Oakland Hills are getting very anxious for rain.
The weather forcasters keep saying it will cool off, but personally I think this will be a drought year.

Here in OC we are getting tons of ash silt falling down - just like it is snowing. Feel sorry for those folks that have lost their homes - makes you think twice about buying a place out in the stick with more acres huh.
I cant seem to think that the ash is good for the soil. The turtles/tortoises seem to be taking it in stride - all behaving pretty normal.
How are things in your neck of the woods?

I am in Pasadena, you can definatly smell the smoke, and can see the smoke from the fire. My tortoises are doing well, the smell doesn't seem to bother them, but I brought them indoors a bit earlier than usual just in case.
I also feel for the people that lost their homes
We did have net access on one computer yesterday, but the router went down, so none on the computer I use. But really didn't have time to get on. Every couple of hours I wet down the box turtle areas and a few times Annie's(sulcata) area. The police came by about 5pm suggesting everyone leave. We packed boxes of pics and other memerories, but the fire moved away from us, so we have stayed put.

i used to live in a tiny ski town called wrightwood, somewhere between rancho cucamonga and victorville/barstow/high desert. moved here to central florida a year ago. those hills burned all the time it seemed. a couple fires got closer than is comfortable, but all ended well. i remember not being able to breathe or see, and i can imagine how horrible it would be to lose a home in the fire. cheers
