How I do pogo's feeding....okay???

pogo_the_dragon Oct 26, 2003 05:48 PM

I usually feed pogo around 7:30 a.m. in the morning during the workweek and his lights are on around 6:30 a.m. I know this is early and not much time given to him to warm up but it's my only way. I've often wondered if that was enough time for him to warm up and be ready to eat, but as I said it's my only way. Now for some reason he doesn't like his crix dusted? I don't know why but he knows the differnce. He absolutely won't eat them and with how little his appetite is I don't want him to not eat at all. So this is what I do...I've been for about the last week pureeing some veggies, collards, squash, and pellets in a liquid mix and add a very very small amount of multi-vitamin and a small amount of calcium. I handfeed him this puree by eyedropper around 5:00 pm when I get home and he loves it. Actually he attacks the eyedropper ...Then I feed him again around 7:00 pm some more crix and then lights out are around 8:30...Soo does this seem okay to everyone since I can't get him to eat the crix dusted...The crix are gutloaded with the best cat food I can buy ($7.00 a bag for kittens, and low in fat that I buy at our local vets) and collards, and baby cereal, T-Rex Sandfire Ranch gutload, and Squash for moisture so they in my opinion should be high in nutrients...What do you think of this...Even though Pogo still eats his live prey is it okay to use a eyedropper feeding everyday? I just see this as good time to bond as he's very relaxed when I hold him during this time and sees something good coming out of it!! Let me know....Just want the best for my little buddy!

One you the things you can try is to get a small syringe and needle from your vet, and give a couple of crickets an injection of liquid calcium before you feed them to Pogo.
This also works with meal worms and supers, if he eats those.

I don't feed our 3 until they've been up at least a couple of hours. They just won't eat before then.

First thing is stay away from cat or dog food in any form. If you want to gut load your crix try Vit-All. its the vitiman supliment from the Miner-all people. It keeps vitamins and calcium seperate untill digestion time. Vitimans and calcium dont mix well, the calcium will break down over time.
All my dragons seem to eat more crix after the vit-all gut load.

If you do that you can add the calcium to the viggies but I would try to get him to eat them on his own without the dropper.

hope that helps.

I wouldn't worry about the early feeding. I feed Giblet early as well, she has the same early light schedule as you do and I feed her at 7:30. She usually wants food right away, if not, she begins to chew on rocks..not kidding, it scares me and I feed her right away.
