what kind of turtle is this?

terrapenemom Oct 26, 2003 07:02 PM

This is a very friendly turtle that is in a pond behind my friends house. She's just curious as to what kind it is. She's in North Florida. I'm thinking maybe a florida redbelly, but it's hard to tell. Please help

Might you know if the Florida Redbelly's as cold hardy (if at all) as the Northern Redbellies?

Just wondering in case I ever come across any. Want to know if they can spend the Winter out with the red ears, yellow bellies, painteds and norther redbellies.

Oh yeah -- I live on Long Island.
Zone 7 generally does not get colder than the teens for a few days here and there in dead of Winter.

I'm not really sure whether they could stay out or not...I would imagine so if the other sliders and whatnot are fine..Maybe post that as a new topic??

I have seen florida red bellies active and basking in every month in central florida so i think its likely that they only go doemant on the coldest cloudy days. So i am not sure if they would respoond well to the consistentely cooling temps.

Looks like a Red bellied Slider.
