'Silly madness'

swani May 29, 2003 02:02 PM

hello I've got a funny question....I have a 2yr corn, Milo, and at night when his light goes out and he comes out to 'play', I hear a noise from his cage (I keep him in my rediculously large closet) this has been going on for 3-4 wks. He climbs up on top of the ledge (of aquarium) so he's between ledge and screen cover- I'm sure everyone knows about this. What I hear is him falling from the ledge and landing whith a thump noise. I'm not too concerned about this but I think it's funny. He does this many times a night, sometimes with only 3-5 min in between thumps. Is he trying to get out? Is he enjoying this 'exercising'? SHOULD I be concerned? He has a 20 gal long with 2 hide spots and trees also. He seems happy during day. hides sometimes but not always. Anyone heard of this silly madness before?

Sorry, it's so long.... I got Milo from a friend of my cousin when he was just over 1yr. I'm concerned about his size. He's about 32" long but girth is only about the thickest part of my middle finger, and as you probably noticed from above, I am a Female. Is this abnormal? I don't think he came from a GREAT home.
Thanks for reading (if you lasted this long!)

Its trying to find an escape route. They do this until they figure out they won't escape. Don't worry.

Or tell it to my 2 yr old. He's been doing this for as long as I've had him.

I keep hoping he will give up, but after two years he still hasn't stopped.

Nothing to worry about...very common. Might be looking for a way out, but also might be just climbing the only high points available. They do like to climb up when given a chance...at least some of them do.
About the size...Is he eating well and regularly? Does the size prey item you are feeding him leave at least a small lump in him?
If he's feeding well, don't worry about him at all. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info..
He eats whenever I give him food.I'm giving him baby rats (hairies?) It does leave a lump. Sometimes I give him 2 at a time and he spares no time getting to the second one. Should I always give him 2 at a time? He seems to digest it well...normal feces an all.

Just thought Id add that I dont think he could eat anything bigger yet so thats not yet an option. If I should only be giving him 1 should I feed more often (like every 3 days?) I feed every 6-8 now.
thanks again

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. My snakes like to snake around the top of their tanks whenever they can. At first it worried me when they would fall, but no longer. Good luck and enjoy. Duffy
