Help! What is it?

littlegreenfrowg Oct 26, 2003 11:39 PM

I have small 12" long and pencil thickness snake. Has yellow round eyes and round pupils. No neck with plates on head. Is a creamy background and belly with dark brown almost rusty bars that fade to brown and no markings towards very end of tail. Bars fade to spots or speckles towards belly. Black tongue. Found in southeast Texas in some brush. I have an ok picture but don't know how to post it here. Thanks!

Depending on where exactly (range) you are and more particulars on the snake. Initially, I'd guess maybe a young racer or prairie king. Try to post your pic.

Try looking at some of the pics at this link. It covers almost all of the snakes from your area.

Thanks for the link I was having a hard time finding pictures of juveniles. Great site, too. I do believe that I have the juvenile racer that was pictured. Thanks Again!

From the pix you e-mailed me, I think it is a young racer.
