Tree boa pooping problem!

mkreye Oct 27, 2003 12:35 AM

Hello. My baby tree boa, I think, might have a little problem passing her poop on to the outside world. This has happened to other snakes that I have cared for and my friends parents who have owned snakes a long while have always just massaged it out if its stuck. I just bought my third snake, a tree boa, and this little blockage problem is happening. She's about 2-3 months old, and I've massaged a bit out. But you can still see that a bit is being blocked right at her anal plate. Anywho, I was wondering if anyone else has any advice for me about this. I'm so in love with my tree boa I don't want anything bad to happen to her! So, if anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Thankyou!

Soak in warm water, possibly a shower of warm water.

Make sure you have proper humidity in the cage.

Try soaking in a large plastic sweater box (with the top on so the snake stays put), in no more than 2 to 3 inches of water, and use a thermometer... have the water about 90 degrees (not much hotter than that). Check on it after an hour, if no luck re-do the water with fresh warm water again, and try for another hour. If still no luck, try again tomorrow or the next day.

A warm soak is probably the method that's easiest on the snake.

Also, make sure that it's drinking regularly. A dry snake gets constipated.
