My first viv

Arklier Oct 27, 2003 04:26 AM

I finished setting up my viv today, thought I would show everyone a pic. I used a 29 gallon tank. It's my first one, so there are things that I would do differently next time, like having a shorter false bottom (it's about 2.5" high) and less dirt (about 4" in there now) so I have more room for plants (about 2/3rds of the tank is dirt and bottom). The frog is not in the tank yet, I still have him in my temp setup (along with the broms) until the plants get some growth. I plan on adding a background later. I have a 3" PVC pipe in the corner, but I don't have tubing for the pump yet, so I just sat a plant in it. I know people have made much better looking setups with smaller tanks. Any suggestions?

I would add a couple more plants, and a hiding place or 2. So far not too bad for your first shot. Could even pick up a simple background also.

I think a back ground would really bring it all together.

Hey, along with a background, how 'bout adding some interestingly shaped pieces of wood that could add some dimentional look to the viv. This way you'll have a background, and the terresterial plants and then some wood that addes rises and falls in the visual line and extra places to mount epiphytes, and broms. If you choose some moisture tolerating wood like cypress, or ghost you'll have those incidentals like moss growing on it in no time. For your floor, adding some ground cover will really finish it up. Try some moss of course (pillow is a great type-nothing to choke on and always just looks great!)or Selegnia(sp?). Nice job on the viv! Show us what it looks like later with the broms in.
