Bearded Dragon Hybernation?

teachermike Oct 27, 2003 12:28 PM

I have a bearded dragon in my classroom. He has been in the same enclosure at the same environmental conditions since spring. However, about 5-6 weeks ago he went into his "cave" and hasn't come out, unless I bring him out and then he goes right back in. He is a little over a year old and appears healthy. I haven't noticed any condition change even though he hasn't been eating. Is this normal behavior?
Also, what other reptiles can I put in with him. His enclosure is approxiamtely 48" wide x 40" tall x 24" deep. The inside is made up to look like desert with several crawling and basking areas.
Thanks for the help!!
mike

Sound like he thinks it is time to hibernate this is the season but a little early. Make sure the basking spot is 110 degrees and he should be alright. Is hiss weight ok he needs to have food in his cage daily so if he needs to eat he can, but this is normal. One of my females is already trying to hibernate also. hope this helps and check the bearded dragon fourm under lizards a little further down the fourm page. scott
