Tropical playsand revisited #2

dblough Oct 27, 2003 03:35 PM

I am beginning to find out that virtually no Home Depot's on the West coast sell the Southdown or Yardright Tropical playsand. I was hoping that anyone that does have it at their local Home Depot could you please gimme the name of the town you live in and possibly the number to the Home Depot? Thanks in advance!

If you go to a fish store, more specifically, one that has saltwater, try asking them for oolitic sand. It is the exact same thing. They run for about $1 a pound. There's also a couple online stores that sell them for less, but with shipping, it comes to $1 a pound.

Why not sift and use regular playsand? It's not as "pretty", but might get the same job done.

Try Industrial Sand Number 30. It is a sandblasting sand that can be bought at home depot that is very fine and uniform in grain size (absolutely no sifting required). I've raised hatchlings on this without any problems. It comes in a brown bag and can be had for less than 5 bucks for 50 lbs. Look in the concrete section (I live in San Diego btw).
