Fertile Queen?

cable_hogue Oct 27, 2003 05:00 PM

Hey Gordon,
I was out collecting ants this morning and observed a worker carrying back what appeared to be a huge ant to the nest. I harrassed him into dropping it and found that it was alive and well and appears to be a Pogo Rugosus queen. Can you give a positive ID? Any insight into whether it is fertile? It was about 10:30am today.
This first picture shows it in comparison to a P. Rugosus worker.

Thanks!

ps. Thanks also for the ID on the true bug.

I would think it is fertile, certainly a queen. Good luck with her. It is a little late in the season for them to fly but here in so cal anything is possible.
