Congrats to the new baby!
AS we all know rubbermaids hold humidity pretty damn good
and thats a great things for bloods as they need their humidity to be at least 75-80% and 90-100% during shedding.
You can lower the humidity several ways: A few more holes in the rubbermaid for more ventilation (just a few!) to lower the humidity just enough to about 80% since he is a little tYke right now.
Humid hides: one is ok, but I prefer to have two of them: one on the warm side (will most likely almost always be 100% humidity), and one on the cool side (will mainly be around 80-85 and even 90% humidity at all times.) I prefer two so that this way the little guy will not only be able to choose between moisture but also cool or warm.
Regular hides: Do you have any? I also prefer to have two of these, 1 placed on the warm end and 1 placed on the cool end just like the humid hides.
Ambient air temps: Mid 80s to high 80s and then a warm spot at around 88-90 degrees. Lower the ambient air temp to about 87-88 degrees, but make sure that the wamr spot stays at least at 88 degrees. The humid and regular hide on the warm side should read somewhere inbetween the air temp and the warm spot temp, no higher! If you have trouble keeping the hides in these temp ranges elevate them by puttting something like a piece of 3/4 inch board (sanded of course) to releave them of direct heat., until you reach good enough temps.
Humidity Factors: misting when he is shedding is a plus! this will raise the humidity in the entire enclosure to 90-100% but if you have two humid hides reading what I have mentioned you wont have to mist at all, just provide a water bowl like always.
It has worked great for me; the rubbermaid rack, the 2 and 2 hides, and all other factors like air temp, warm spot temp, and humidity. Let your blood python decide where he wants to be and when, just dont give him the minimum, invest oin a few more hides (5.00) and both you and your blood will be happy.
You must remember that these are not ball pythons or burmese, these snakes are not forgiving, you slack he will die. You are definatly on the right track and best wishes to you and that little fellow. Post some pics when you can.
Here is a picture of a setup.......Will it work? Will it make em' happy.....yup!
Best wishes and I hope this helps you,
Lu
P.S. all hides should have moss or paper towels, I know the picture doesnt have these in it, but I took this picture just for a guide line.
