For those who breed your feeders

Im breeding hissers and crickets. How do you all heat?, the thing is I will have 1 bin for hissers 1 for adult crickets 1 for small crickets and like 1 for the eggs to hatch in. So this is like 4-5 bins and I use human heating pads. I dont want to have to have 4-5 heat pads going. Is this how you guys do it or do you have a better way? Your help will be appreciated.

I use heat tapes. I have a cheapie IKEA shelf set up that is 6 feet long and run 2 6" wide 6 feet long heat tapes along the length of it to keep my roach containers heated. Also with this crazy heat wave we are having here in CA (along with fires) their containers get really warm during the high of the day. I have noticed a ton of roaches shedding their exoskeletons more this week than I have in a month.

As far as crickets, I don't heat them. But I am just starting to set up to breed them. I will use bins heated by 1 6" wide 6 feet long heat tape for the length of the shelf.

I also don't use heat for my mealworms...yet. I don't exactly have alot of them. I just got beetles out of a 50 mealworm container from the pet store so I can take pictures of their life cycle. As it gets colder or I get more worms, I will set up bings on the heat tape as well.

I use dimmers on the heat tape so I can adjust the amount of heat produced. If things get really cold at night, I can close the window to the room they are in and keep it heated with a heater. I keep all my creepy crawly critters in my spare bedroom.

I think I bought my heat tape (some assembly is required) from The Bean Farm several years ago. Still working great.

I'm telling you the hotter you keep those roaches the faster they breed and grow. I have tons of babies from all my species right now.

I just purchased the book "Allpet Roaches: Care and Identification Handbook for the Pet and Feeder Cockroaches". It suggested that a 25w bulb in a reflector is more effective than heat tape or mats. I think they mentioned something about basking.

What's your opinion?
