unexpected breeding

JMILLR2101 Oct 27, 2003 06:28 PM

I was given a "female" ball python and just put it in with my sexed female ball python. When I woke up this morning they were clutched together and now I don't know what to do.
Keep them together?
Tempature changes?
What is the best way to prep my female for the up and coming egg situation, and myself for that matter? Could any one PLEASE help me out on this because I would really like to raise these babies and learn from them!!!

Just leave them alone for now. They will stop when they are finished, then you can put them in separate cages. If the female is gravid, it will become apparent in a month or so. As it gets close to oviposition time, you can set up a nest box for her full of damp sphagnum moss (the leaf kind). Once she starts to use the nest box and goes into shed (she will do this just previous to laying), then you can get back on here for direction for incubating the eggs. Don't panic..you've got lots of time.

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THE INFORMATION, YOUR THE ONLY ONE SO FAR THAT HAS HELPED ME! EVEN THE BALL FORUM WOULDN'T HELP ME OUT WITH THIS!

I would have helped you out, but I've got no clue myself.. Better no answers than bad answers!
The ball forum is too busy arguing about how to answer questions than actually answering questions.
One thing I would recommend is a book like 'The Ball Python Manual' or 'The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas' for those 3AM bouts of insecurity. Hatching eggs for the first time all by yourself is nerve-wracking. Er.. well.. in my case trying to hatch eggs. Better luck next year for me, I hope. I'm sure you'll have an easier time!

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?
