more than 1 male

randi Oct 27, 2003 06:50 PM

How big does a cage have to be to have more than 1 male in it? I have seen my leo and beardie males being nasty to the females but never my male crestie.

My first egg hatched last night. The little one is a beautiful red fire morph. Her colouring is even darker than her dad. I want to keep the first one but I won't know its sex until a few months from now. If I keep it and it turns out to be a male will there be problems between him and his dad?

Thanks,
Randi

I'm assuming you mean 1 male plus one or more females, not 2 or more males. You can easily house an adult pair in a 10 gallon if you create more surface area by using slabs of corkbark or egg crate. I keep trios in 66 quart rubbermaids using the same method of expanding surface area.

I did mean more than 1 male. I currently have a male and female. Their first egg hatched and I want to keep it but if it turns out to be a male do I have to get rid of it?

You don't have to get rid of it, but you can't keep it in the same cage as your pair. You would need to get another cage. I suppose with a large enough enclosure that has alot of cage funiture and hides, it could work. I've never tried it.

Then again why risk it? Also, you don't want the offspring to mate with his mother which may happen.
