Ok here is a re-edit of the one I posted before, and another one from a little better angle that I had missed out of my group last time. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, my favorite picture! I think the best one is the one on top, but they are both wonderful. I would enter the imitator pic instead of the azureus. I would bet that alot azureus pics will get entered.
Once again, your pics are wonderful and i look forward to looking at them every time you post a new one.

Kyle,
Sorry for the delay. I just got home. Yeah, I think it better. I tightend it up just a little more to get rid of the fussy pointed pc. on the right and brought the bottom up just a little more. I like both shots, but I like the top (1st one) more. Great picture, I like it more and more every time I see it.

this is my slightly modified version of the pic... I think by getting rid of the big leaves at the edge it draws more attention to the subject...

Yea, I thought of that also, which moves the frog up a little higher, but I felt that the plant and frog wouldn't be "anchored" whereas the plant flare kinda does the anchoring.

You seem to be having fun with this! Photoshop is a kick aint it?
Just my two cents, and like you said, it's a bit subjective. However, I think Kyle's compostion is a bit easier to look at, while your's is getting a bit too tight. Negative space is not necessarly a bad thing.
If the fuzzy thing on the right is bothersome, then a few clicks of the rubber stamp tool will fix it. Care should be taken not to bring things in so tight that one feels the image is "trapped" by the borders of the photo. This is the feeling I get with your edit.

I'm a professinal illustrator and designer, so composition is pretty much my life.
Not trying to step on toes, feel free to ignore me.

Cheers
Jim

...if you are talking about my picture I did it in 1 min while on a break at work... and I did not crop it... I simply removed the background that was ther and filled it with black... I would have liked to see the picture less tight I just have happened to download the picture that was already cropped... just wanted to offer another option

treedimensions Oct 28, 2003 07:58 PM

Your absolutely right, the negative space is part of (an important part) as the composition has to have balance. I agree that the detail could be just as easily removed. I want to tighten to put more focus on the frog as I lead in and out of the image because the frog is "proposed" as a frog pic. contestant, thus I want to be as tight as I can and yet keep the supporing elements submissive.(needless to say there's a limit)
