Weldbond Re-hydrating?

bgkast Oct 27, 2003 08:54 PM

Sorry for asking another weldbond question.

I recently used weldbond to seal a piece of driftwood for use in my vivarium. The first coat did not seem to seal it, so I put on a few more heavy coats. Now when ever the wood gets wet, for example lightly misting the vivarium, the weldbond turns white as if it is absorbing the water and becoming glue again. Any of you people who have used weldbond for backgrounds have this problem? Is this safe? My frogs enjoy sitting on this piece of wood at night. I don’t want them to be harmed. Thanks for your help.

idon't know much about weldbond, but that does not sound too good. I would pull the woood out and let it cure for a couple of weeks....sounds like a long time but better safe than sorry

OK, well I took the wood out, rinsed it so the weldbond got "soggy" and scrubbed the excess off with a scrub brush. Then I baked it in a 200 degree oven for 4 hours. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
