captive bred vs wild caught

seductivereptile Oct 27, 2003 11:16 PM

I just bought a male ball python from a local rep show. I was told it was captive bred. Is there anyway to find out if it really is captive bred? I just got it on Sunday, it won't eat. Do they get stressed when they are moved and how long does it take for them to eat? I am new to pythons so I have no idea. The dealer I bought him from said he ate a week ago and should be ready to eat soon, should I be worried? Thanks in advance for any help with this. BTW..... he is a really good looking snake, fat and very docile.

Ball pythons can get stressed when moved to a new home. I would give it a week or two to settle in before feeding it, then try live food. Keep an eye on the rodent in the snake's cage and don't leave it in there overnight. Keep handling to a minimum until he eats regularly with no problem. Good luck and I hope this helps.
