Is there such a thing as too much light?

JohnB May 29, 2003 04:14 PM

Hi, all.

I just received a pair of D. azureus froglets and I'm keeping them in a critter keeper while I design and acclimate their new vivarium.

I'm planning on a 20 gallon planted tank with no water features other than a dish. I found a great deal on a compact fluorescent hood that contains 2 55W lamps, but I was wondering if that would be too much light for the frogs. What do you all think?

Thanks very much!

Lighting is more for the plants than it is for the frogs. But, to answer your question, no that's not too much lighting. I think that you'll find that many of us run compact flourescents(excellent for the plants). The only problem with them is heat. You may need to run a computer fan across them or elevate them in order to keep your viv from getting too hot. Just takes a little experimentation to get it right.
