Any way to decrease temps without a rheostat????

jack7777766 May 29, 2003 04:36 PM

Ok,
I have my guys in 17qt sterilite drawers, and Im attaching the heat pad on the bottom between the draw and the bottom of it. Can you tell me if there is something I can put over it or anyway to make it less hot since this way it gets hotter than when I put it under the container
Thanks
Jack

first off make sure there is a small gap between the heat tape and bottom of your box, for air circulation. you dont want the box to be placed flat and directly on the tape... a small gap of a 1/4 in will be good. that in itself will keep your bottom of your boxes from getting as hot (but still might be too warm if not on a thermostat or rheostat) but for exact and complete control of the temps you are going to need either a rheostat or thermostat, its a must. your only other option to lower the temp is to unplug the heat source LOL

Im gonna try and put the pad under the whole thing and see how it works. Im getting a rheostat soon anyways though.
