Patch a crack in basking stick?(hiding spot for crickets)

conodor Oct 28, 2003 08:56 AM

I purchased a really nice branch that has a few options for my 2 beardies to lay on when they are trying to bask. well my girlfriend and i have been adding crickets for feeding time and the seem to be eating ALOT! well every night we would do a check to make sure all crickets are out of the cage. and when i wake up in the morning there was a few hopping around. well after driving me crazy on where they are hiding, i found a crack in the branch. with about 10 or so crickets in there. i shook them all out and we are now keeping a closer eye on when they eat and put less in the cage at a time.

ok with all that being said... is there a safe something i can use to fill in that hole? just to prevent the crickets from jumping up there? it's in an area where the beardies won't really get to but i do want something safe. i really like the branch becasue it really works great for 2 beardies.

thanks for any help!

You could feed your beardies in a seperate enclosure. I feed my in a rubbermaid container like the one below. That way there is never any chance crickets in their tank.

Or you can seal any holes or cracks with a glue gun. That stuff is pretty safe and dries without any odors. You can fill any holes with card board cut to fit the hole and use the glue gun to seal it all around the sides... This is what we did before we figured out to just feed in a seperate enclosure.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I feed mine in a 20 gallon aquarium. Apart from no crickets in his home there is no dust from the crickets getting the cage carpet white
