As they can grow to about 6 ft. go figure, would you want to be stuffed in a room that was 3ft to the roof if you were 6ft tall?

Its not humane to house snakes in to small cages, except for some aboeral species that do like it when its tight.

Im building a 6feet long 3feet deep and 4feet tall cage for my rainbow pair. And i think thats to small to.

I just want to ask you, would you like to watch a snake thats cramped in its cage, with almost no ability to move around at all, the whole idea of keeping reptiles go lost if they can't use their natural behaviour.

Im not sure about the U.S but in sweden we got laws to as how small cages you can use, 2 rainbows require atleast 1,5 square metre of cage distributed on length and width, height is not so important but at LEAST 2ft. ofcourse you don't get caught using to small cages, but its abuse to the animal.

Stefan,
. I read your post with great interest. We do have very different laws in different locations. I do not agree with you that keeping these snakes in 3 foot cages is inhumane. If you release one in your house you will probably not find it out crawling around enjoying all the space. It will crawl into the very tightest darkest hiding place it can find and spend most of it's time there. In my cages the snakes are out moving around some at night but they spend most of their time inside the clay flowerpots I provide for them to hide in. If I had the room I would probably keep my BRBs in larger cages but they would still spend most of their time hiding in the smallest hiding spots they could find in the cage. I hope you will provide some very small secure dark hiding places in your large cages because IMO it would be inhumane to not provide them. I have many Rainbows that have been in my collection for more than 10 years and a few that I have had for more than 13 years. If my treatment of them was inhumane I do not think they would have thrived and reproduced and lived this long here. Some snakes do require large cages but I think Rainbow Boas do not.
