Some monitor pics I took while I was in Singapore and India

BAZ Oct 28, 2003 11:41 AM

I travelled to the Madras Crocodile Bank in August to work with the crocs there and also do some wildlife presentations for the public as a representative of Little Rays Reptile Zoo here in Ottawa, Canada. Here are a few photos I took while I was there. I stopped in Singapore on the way there and managed to take a couple of photos of the komodo dragons and water monitors at the zoo there. The Madras Crocodile Bank also had a few very large water monitors which I got to work with.

The rest of the pics are of the wildlife presentations and feeding demonstrations I did for the public in India. Hope you guys enjoy them.

Hi BAZ,

Many Thanks for sharing such great pics with us here - did you meet Harry Andrews? He's a terrific fellow - always in the Andaman island discovering new species there....

Cheers,

Oh yeah I met Harry and spent quite a bit of time with him and we got along really well. Really nice bloke him. Also got to meet Rom Whittaker a few times too.

is that an otter in with the water monitor?

BAZ Oct 28, 2003 03:10 PM

Yup the otters and the water monitors live together at Singapore zoo. I was quite amazed by that when I first saw it.

I can imagine that they'd quickly get used to it if they within a relatively similar size range (so the monitor doesn't try to eat the otter or vice versa), but I would imagine an adult otter hassling a monitor for a while.
