Lost Greek Tortoise

5hawn May 29, 2003 05:18 PM

In mid-April I came home to find someone left the patio door open. I searched all over outside for my adult greek, but no luck. Right across the road is a rocky hillside, and forest. I tried to find info on their natural habitat, hoping I could narrow down the search. Problem is I dont know what geographical region she came from. I was also curious to see if anyone just happens to know of someone who picked her up from the road. If so, im offering a generous reward. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

In my experience when my tortoise escaped, she didn't travel far. She escaped on 3 different occasion, lasting from a couple hours to 5 days! All the times I found her, she was no more than 15 feet of where her enclosure was. Keep an eye out, and look everyday, even in teh same places, even in places wehre you dont expect to find a tortoise.... Good luck

Thanks for writing. The tortoise you lost, was it a greek? I have searched everywhere, for the last month. I have looked up everything on the web for their natural habitat, but no luck. I basically live on top of a mountain ridge in NE PA, and I was hoping to find out where she would most likely be, if someone didnt happen to pick her up. I would like to know if I should concentrate on the edge of the forest, on the hills, flatlands, or anywhere in between. Is there any native vegetation they may favor more than others? I know I may sound desperate, but thats because I am. Any help or advise from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
