And my husband thinks I"M bad at the reptile store......

Sillygirl Oct 28, 2003 05:40 PM

This is too funny. I started out with my baby Popcorn (anery), and have two amel females coming in from out of state (an 02 & 03) which should be here within the next week. This afternoon I sent my husband out to my favorite reptile store for a fruit fly cultures (4 of mine crashed due to mold and drying out). When he gets home he calls me. The following is our conversation...

Me: Hi honey

Hubby: Hi sweetie, I went to the reptile store, you've been a bad girl.

Me: Huh?? What did I do now?

Hubby: You left your credit card there :-S

Me: Oh SH*T, I didn't even know I was missing one.

Hubby: Yep, good thing they know you so well they kept it for you.

Me: Well thanks for getting it for me baby.

Hubby: You're welcome....you need to feed the snake tonight.
(notice he doesn't call it Popcorn like usual)

ME: No I don't, I fed him Sunday, he won't need to eat for several more days.

Hubby: NO, you NEED to feed the snake tonight, I picked you up some more mice becuase I figured you were running low.

**Ok at this point I am really starting to question his memory..he was with me last Sunday when I picked up 10 more fuzzies hence leaving my credit card there**

Me: Ok....so tell me why I need to feed "the snake" tonight.

Hubby: Because "it" was supposed to be fed tonight.

Me: You bought another corn didn't you??

Hubby: Uh Huh...

Me: *SMILING AT THIS POINT* Which one?

Hubby: The Snow.

Me: TOOO COOL. Thank you.

Hubby: Yeah I love you, you know it.

Anyways......

Do you know where I can find plans to build a rack??
Sounds like my collection is taking off.

Thanks for listening to my long story here....I just thought it was funny and worth sharing. Gotta love a man who not only isn't scared of snakes but buys them for his wife

PS..We've decided to name it KandyKorn. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them.

The basics for building a rack can be found at the following link. It also tells you how to wire flex-watt heat tape.

What a great husband! Year before last I got two snakes. My dh came in to see what one I wanted and a ball python totally seduced him so he had to get her too. Maybe they really are evil?

As a young, single, male I'm absolutely shocked at how many females are in to snakes. Maybe I will get married someday after all

There are more of us girls out there then you realize.

I was always a "tomboy" growing up. Always loved animals, reptiles, etc. Spiders aren't my favorite but would much rather pick them up then pincer bugs. I was always the girl who never freaked out with critters, snakes, lizards, bees, etc. One of my fondest memories was in Jr. High and my science teacher had a 8' boa who everyone was scared of. I asked if I could hold her and got a funny look from the teacher. Well needless to say me and that snake became very good buddies and he would curl up around my neck and sleep while I worked in class.

So it's funny now because my husband will freak out when there is a spider in the house (or millipeds) and I'll just go pick it up with my bare hands and put it outside.

Guess I always grew up with a love and deep appreciation for animals both warm and cold blooded and love working with them and sharing my life with them.

BTW the snow corn hubby bought me was named KandyKorn and boy is she a little snot compared to Popcorn who's so very tame with me. But had no problems downing two fuzzys in 5 minutes, she went after those dead mice with a vengence. Hopefully she'll calm down a lot so I can hold her more and take lots of pictures.

I'm a girl and an animal lover. Warm blooded, cold blooded...pretty much anything except those darn potato bugs. If fact I got my boyfriend totally hooked on snakes and rats. I still can't convince him on the lizards though. Don't know why but he doesn't like to hold them. I couldn't date someone who wouldn't at least put up with my zoo...

as the guys who love snakes. And yes, for me, the snakes & me are a package deal. Before I met my other half, the guy I had been dating gave me the 'snakes or me' ultimatum. :D Since he's an 'ex', I guess that explains everything. lol My other half wasn't real sure about the snakes when we got together (8 yrs ago now) but he's adapted to them and learned a great deal about them over the years. He learned that most of the preconceived notions about them aren't fact and admires their beauty. He'd never go out and buy one for himself, but he's very tolerant of my passion for them (just about has to be with my collection grown to 23 snakes from just the 4 I had when we met).

Yes I agree, he is a very sweet and loving AND understanding man. As I write this, he is in surgery undergoing a 4-level spinal disc fusion. He bought me the snow as he put it "In case something happens to me, I wanted you to have one more thing to remember me by" That made me cry. So my prayers are with him right now and I am gratefull I have these forums to hang out in and read to keep my mind occupied. It's been a hell of a year, difficult, heartbreaking and a real test of courage, you name it. One of the few things that has brought my husband and I happiness is all of our animals.

Maybe that's why anyone who loves animals and loves keeping them will fight for them as hard as we do. Because they are all our family too.

and the surgery went ok. I was catching up and reading the posts from the last few days and was really enjoying this thread and how in so many ways it reminds me of myself and my hubby. I got my first lizard by pretending it was for my sons birthday when it was me who realy wanted it*L* Since then my zoo has grown, my hubby brought home my snow corn as a surprise and if I had more room I would have more critters. Anyhow, the point to my post is, I really do hope the surgery went well, let us know.

Yes thank god the surgery went well. He's a hurting unit and I'm extreamly lonely without him home. I'm going up tonight to see him even though it's slicker then snot out there with freezing drizzle. What sucks is the hospital is almost a 100 mile round trip and when you got critters to care for at home it makes for some very late nights and horrible mornings.

Oh and that snow that he brought me home? THe little sh*t tried to bite me when I changed her water. There's gratitude for you!!!!

My snow hasnt bit me...yet, so far so good shes really sweet! Im sure yours will settle down in time.

I totally know what you mean. My wife before the Reptile show in tinley park we had already pre purchased 1 lav and 1 ghost from kathy love and planned on getting one more snake. Before the show my wife was like man do we really need three more snakes? Then we got to the show and she was like a valley girl on rodeo drive *sp*. we went to Kathy's table and she went nuts. She wanted to leave with our two and also a carmel, charcoal, and pretty much one of each that she had. Then later she saw an adult butter corn and was willing to buy it an enclosure the works without a second thought.
I guess some girls like shoes , my wife likes corns. I guess i'm a lucky man.

I believe it is Heinlein that said "'Veni, Vidi, Vicit!' I cam, I saw, SHE conquered. The original Latin seems to have been garbled."

One letter difference, so maybe he is correct. Either way, I always liked Heinlein's quote more than the so-caled original.
