BLIZZARD BABIES?????

svt03cobra Oct 28, 2003 07:14 PM

i found 2 blizzard babies today at a pet store by me. i wanted to buy them but i had a few questions first. their tail wasnt fat at all.... a lil skinnier than their body, is that normal for babies or should their tail always be fat.

also i have a male and female leo ( both are juviniles ). i but 10 small crickets in for them to eat ( pinheads ). it doesnt seem like they are eating them b/c everythoime i clean their cage i find them did. are they not eating them, b/c they are to small? am i able to feed them large crickets a juvilies?

usually babies have skinnier tails, plus the pet stores don't take as good care of fattenting leo's tails up... so if you buy them, be sure to get a fecal done to make sure they don't have any parasites or bacteria - then you can feed them to fatten up their tails. but usually, when babies are born they have thin tails~

are there some being eaten at least? do you count how many are left the next day compared to how many you put in? and are your crickets hiding in places? i noticed that about my leo... he couldn't find the crix that were hiding in the other hide or in the corner between things. once i took everything out, he found em all and ate like 3 of em.. the rest i plucked out and am now feeding my leo on a diet of mealies with the occasional waxie. i don't know how you can help your leos eat the crix sorry

i hoped i helped a little bit!

Jueveniles should be getting bigger crickets than pinhead. I would go with 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch for them.

And yes, babies don't generally have fat tails.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

this was posted already but i am going to suggest the medium size crickets as well, the week old ( pine heads) are usually to small for the baby geckos to catch in any good amount, and they can hide in sooo many places that the larger crickets cant get to. a good way to know what size to feed is to make sure the cricket is no bigger than the width of the head at the jaw, thats about the size you want to go with. on the other part of the topic i would say that the tails are normally not as fat looking as the adults but should definitly appear plump.. they dont have to be huge as the fat storge is somthing that is built up as the animal gets older, but not dehydrated looking. hope any of that helped.
