How to reuse under-tank heaters?

How can under tank heaters be reused when they lose their stickyness? Can masking or duct tape be used safely? The UTH will be on a dimmer to control temperature. Anybody with experience in sticking back on used under-tank heaters that can chime in, would be greatly appreciated.

You could try double-sided carpet tape.
