Question about Tegu toe nails?????

birddog5151 Oct 28, 2003 07:49 PM

Do you clip them or let them grow?? If you trim do you trim all four or just the backs??? I never have trimmed Rufus and his nails don't seem to be overly long. They are very sharp. He is sweet as can be to hold. Sometimes he gets unconfortable with people and dogs moving arond him. So he tries to go to higher ground(my shoulder). Seems to me that the back nails are the ones to clip as they are the ones that get me the most. What do you think???

I clip my guys often. Just preference, unless they grow oddly I would guess. when clipping, do all four feet.

Local pet stores sometimes do them for free.

You have to be carefull when you clip them so you don't hit the vain. You can't really clip that far down. I agree that they're not that bad even if you don't clip them unless they get uncomfortable. I don't clip them very often at all (months, all 4 feet).

My vet used to trim my water dragon's toenails with a dremmel tool - he would just grind the sharp edges to a flattend nub. It works great and no risk of cutting the vain. I think he had a rounded bit on it with a sand-paper like texture. Maybe it was the default dremmel bit, I can't remember. My water dragon didn't mind at all and it just took a minute to do all toes.
