not breeding nelsons, should I cool them?

DenverTom Oct 28, 2003 07:59 PM

My BPs, I cool them even when I am not breeding them. Same for my rosies. What about my nelsons? I kept them warm and feeding last winter, but the female is still too small to breed. Will they feed through the winter if I keep their temps up? Let's say I do have to cool them this winter but don't intend to breed, what temps are good for cooling?

thanks alot
Denver Tom

You don't have to cool them if you're not going to breed them. Sometimes the animals will go off feed though, sensing that it's winter time. If this happens, or you decide to cool them anyway, just make sure you keep them on heat for 2 weeks following their last feeding. Then gradually cool them to a temp of 55-60 for 2-3 months.
