I use 20 watt 11 inch heat tape running verticaly down the back of all my racks. I've been using this sytem for 3 years now. I find this to be far more consistent than belly heat. The problem with belly heat is it can differ greatly based on the bedding that you use. If there is a thick layer of substrate the heat will not get through effectively and if your snake pushes aside the substrate, he or she might be exposed to too much heat.

I use a temp gun to check my basking areas at the rear of each compartment. Vertical tape provides more of an ambient heat which ranges from 89 - 95 degrees.

Hope this helps.

Can you take a pic of the back wall did you run the heat tape directly attached to the back wall Thanks

I attach the tape to the back of my shelves directly down the center. Then the backing goes over that. My tubs rest directly against the tape.
