They are ok, but are not great nutritionally. They should make up a smaller fraction of the diet than say...crickets or cockroaches or nightcrawlers. They also have a lot of chiton in their exoskeleton which can clog up the frog's intestines. Notice after feeding mealworms you can still find chiton in their feces for weeks afterwards. Andy

On top of what and he said, live mealworms can potentially be dangerous to your frog. When I use them, I simply mash the head with the hemostats I am using.

In some states hemostats are illegal to posses, they are drug paraphanalia. YOu might wanna check on that if you have them.

Actually mealworms have about as much protein as crickets but mealworms are much higher in *fat*. The chitin part is absolutely correct--given a staple, they can increase the likelihood of impaction
But also frogs don't chew their food--it takes a while for mealworms to die in their stomaches. I heard rumors of them causing internal damage but I don't know.
I give my american bullfrog an occasional superworm with no ill effects.
I noticed my bullfrog is starting to eat a lot less, and burrowing. eats sometiems. I guess it is nearing hibernation time
