What brand aspen bedding does everyone use?

RalphSnakeMan Oct 28, 2003 09:42 PM

Hello all,

New to the general forum, but not new to snakes, or these forums.
I was just wondering what type(brand) of Aspen bedding every uses and recommends, is there any real difference. I plan on switching my snakes over from Calci-sand to the Aspen bedding, its just more practical and less messy. I've never really used Aspen bedding before except with my hedgehog, so I'm wondering what is the best brand to buy. Thanks!

Thanks for your time,
Ralph

I don't even know. I use whatever they have. It basically comes down to if you want chips or the fine ground stuff. I have both. I would think the fine ground texture would pass easier if swallowed and be easier to burrow through, so that is a plus. Andy

I use a brand called Sun Seed. Its shredded aspen and I never had a problem with it. I would prefer aspen chips (IMO I think it looks better) but I can't seem to find it in my area. My snakes seem to like it and burrow in it all the time. Plus its easy to spot clean. It pretty much clumps together when dried and I just pick up and throw away. I feed my snakes outside of their tanks so there's no chance of ingestion.

Alrighty guys, sounds good to me, I'll use sunseed or chips if I can find it. I feed my snakes outside of their enclosures also, so ingestion is not a concern as well although as my collection grows (Building a 22 snake rack soon) i might start feeding some of the pesky feeders inside their tanks. We'll see.

Thanks again,
Ralph

P.S. If they don't have sun seed is there any thing inparticular i should look for on the bags? besides it saying "Aspen Bedding"?

Thanks!

I think the stuff I use is called Hyland. I buy it in a bail about 4x3x1.5ft. It's finely shredded.
