What type of Python are these?

norml32 Oct 28, 2003 09:46 PM

They were sold to me as Childrens...yet they don't look anything like the Children's I have seen. I have found a few breeders that suggest stimson's pythons...they are definitely not Spotted. Any intelligent guesses? Nicest snakes I own, personality wise...would not bite anyone. Just ask the 6 and 8 year old that played with them ALL DAY LONG over the summer at my place.

im by no means an expert. but, from what ive read, which actually held true in my limited real world expierience with Antaresia, childreni has a shorter less tapered head than stimsoni. otherwise color can be mistaken, and there is the possibility they are not pure anything. for years there was only childreni and perthensis, no stimsoni or maculosa. a relatively recent reclassification created the genus Antaresia, and shifted childreni and perthensis into antaresia, as well as creating 2 new species. but like i said, im not an expert. good luck

Who did you purchase these two from?
The background color can really distort color perception of the snakes themselves, making them look to be a different hue than they really are but I think you have a nice pair of red Childrens. They definitely are not Stims...Stims hold more pattern and their eyes are almost upward facing, much like that of an Anaconda. If you want pics to compare, please go to our friends' website (link, not the banner) below...they work with all Antaresia but perthensis. There are pics there that you can compare yours to. Also, try to see if you can get some pics to to show us...see if you can take a pic of them when they are still curled up in the cage. That will aid in IDing them.
