Still not eating much ?

Twiglet Oct 29, 2003 07:06 AM

Still not eating much ?

Well I've now had my baby ( aged 6 months) for four & half days ,
He has only eaten a little every day He seems ok in himself
digging , basking , running about etc but the lack of eating is worrying
me a little

His set up seems ok , his hotspot is nice and hot , he has places to hide
and is moving about ok .

And ideas of anything I can do ?

(Oh and yes he has seen a vet who says he seems fine)
I'm just so worried he will get thin or ill

This is very normal, it usually takes them atleast a week usually more to get settled in and start eating, just be patient and keep offering food, maybe try offering peas w/ sups, my guy really loves them and they are good to get a uro started on.

Thank you so much for your reply , It makes me feel more
confident that he is just getting settled in and hopefully soon
he will be ok .

I gave him some pea's this morning before i left for work (as well as loads of greens etc)
maybe he may have eaten some before I get home ( hope so )

Thanks again for your reassurance

I have had my Uro for nearly 2 months. He was a very weak eater for the first 6 weeks. Only recently has his appetite picked up a little. I could not get him to eat anything until discovered he would chase his food. If I roll peas down his basking rock, he will chase them and eat them!! Sounds crazy, but it is working for my little guy. He actually was loosing weight for the first month or so. Now he has put on a few grams and will eat without me having to 'roll' his peas!
Good luck!

This is the time lizards start to brumate "hibernate" so they will stop eating and sleep a lot. The only problem is if your guy really wants to brumate and you dont bring down the temps they will lose weight. So you got your guy 1 month before the start of brumation, and when he was suppose to start eating brumation began so he stopped eating. Since you say he is skinny keep the temps up and hopefully within a week or two he will really start eating.

Thanks for the advice Mike

I will make sure his temps are kept up & keep an eye on him

I have his lights go on at 7am and off at 9pm that sound ok ?

By keeping his temps up and lights on (14 hours a day) , will it stop this happening ? Hope he will be ok ??!!?

He is pooing every day so he must be eating a little yes ?

by keeping the temps up he should be fine and if he is pooping he is definatly eating. I think it takes longer than a month to fully acclimate. Mine were eating good by the fourth week, but were eating like pigs about 2 months later.

Orion is not eating much but he is pooing too. I have seen him eating the substrate, I guess this is enough for him right now. I just hope there is enough moisture in the seed for him.
