Potty Training???

dasnakeguy Oct 29, 2003 11:41 AM

This may sound like a silly question but can you potty train a beardie? I recently bought a baby dragon and he does is "business" on his basking log or rock or whereever he might be at the time. My older beardie has a good habit of going in the same place everyday. I never taught him that he just does it. He'll jump off his log and go to the far end of the tank away from his basking area and do his business. Making it very easy to spot clean. Will my new baby learn that or do I have to teach him? If so, how?

changing them to other substrate and still leaving a folded paper towel in the tank is usually all the encouragment they need.

a sand box for playing and sunning in. Then the folded paper towel.

OR a enclouser of 1/2 reptile carpet and 1/2 sand. These way the sand is easy to change and clean, then never drag or eat sand in the food and it keeps bacteria down.

We spot clean the carpet daily with a baby fresh wipe and wash it in the washer on weekends. We have no smell in our home from the animals and that really surprises people that visit. Dragons really do like to be clean tidy animals if given the chance.

Here is a picture of the 1/2 and 1/2 combo in a home made enclsoure also. Arnies paper towel is in the corner you can not see, but he rarely goes in his sand.

Thank you for the info. So all your beardies go on the folded paper towel?

I really like your set-ups Cheri. They look very clean and easy to maintain. I think i'm going to try the same. Thank you for all the great info.

and it gives them what we call "busy areas" and not just lounging on the basking rock all day. They HAVE to move to eat and also once in the sand they love to dig and rearrange their sand piles...... its funny when two are in them opposite each other and one is covering as the other is digging

MOM!!!!!! she's doing it AGAIN!!
