rattlers in southern california

hello! im new to this forum.. and i have a question.. i live on a farm in southern california (ventura to be exact) and im looking for information on howto find them on my property.. i dont want to hurt them or capture them for more than a day, so dont get the wrong impression. i just want to take some pictures and observe them. thanks in advance! -matthew

I am a snake removal person in socal, your best bet is to look under shrubs, under any pieces of wood or tin, in woodpiles etc. Now as to handling these snakes.......most of what you will find will be southern pacifics, Crotalus viridis helleri, they will stand their ground and deliver a nasty bite.......i do not suggest you handle them in any way, take a picture from afar, remember they can strike 3/4 of the length of their bodies for the most part. be careful and good luck

yeah for the longest time, since april or may this year ive been looking in places like that almost everyday.. and the only snake ive seen was a 5 foot red coach whip, and i caught her. but let her go after i took a few pictures with her. i hear ALL the time that this is 'rattler country' yet, i have not seen one.
