Some Question about D. Auratus Wild in Hawaii

markj May 29, 2003 06:42 PM

Today in my biology class we have started to discuss the effects of humans on the land so we watched part of this movie on Hawaii and how it was isolated and how it has changed since people have come. My teacher talked about a frog that was introduced that has been a pest now, and they make so much noise and are everywhere. I was under the impression that the auratus population was very small there, and since their call is very quiet I don't see what is going on with the loud. Does anybody have a website that has a report on the effect of the frogs or just info?
Thanks!
Mark Jemison

Hi, Mark.

The frog in question isn't D. auratus. It's the coqui; a tiny frog from the Carribean. They are INCREDIBLY loud and very prolific.

Do a search on "coqui" and I'm sure you'll find tons of articles on them.
