While I'm on the topic of posting pics of dead things.... V. melinus

bmendyk Oct 29, 2003 01:09 PM

Here's a skull pic of some of you guys' "most favorite" varanid...(lol) Varanus melinus, the Quince Monitor, or Yellow Tree(??) monitor. I have to get a little bit more of the dried skin off of it, and clean it up a bit, but I just wanted to share some pics of varanid dentistry. Take care,

bob

Hi Bob,

Many Thanks for sharing! It will clean up pretty good and those teeth are very interesting you will see when it is all cleaned up! From the top, V. indicus, V. jobiensis, V. melinus - you cannot tell them apart!! But teeth say different and other things you'll notice with your melins right away once its cleaned up good.

Thanx for sharing,
markb

I really hope that you did not intentionally kill those monitors just for the skull bones and teeth. I just think that’s horrible to kill an animal and keep its remains as a trophy. Not trying to start anything.

Well, unfortunately, that's exactly why I had origionally gotten them, I think it's badass to have animal skulls laying around the house... Does anybody have any unwanted monitors laying around; I guarantee they will be euthanized humanely...

I would never condone the killing of a monitor lizard just to obtain a skull...nor would anybody else on this forum.. this is a place where people share comments and experiences with keeping them ALIVE. These two weren't even my captives. The melinus and salvadorri were both kept by friends of mine, until the day they died. THe croc was probably fifteen years old; I can't remember how old it was in his posession; and the melinus was an adult male that had swallowed some foreign object while it escaped from his enclosure one day... I also have a salvator toiganensis as well, this is being "cleaned" as we speak.

I thought you were serious and I was thinking if I should reply or not haha.

I would not doubt that there have been people on this or other forums because that wanted their animal stuffed or whatever to look cool. I have seen skeletons for sale in the classifieds before.

I have only been around this forum for two and half years or so. I mostly lurked in the beginning then I started posting. In that time I have read some pretty crazy posts not to mention the horrifying pics. I'm sure the people that have been here longer have seen worse.

No hard feelings right?

There are companies that advertise on the classifieds that clean and sell animals that died of natural causes. In fact, you can send them them in a deceased pet and get it back mounted. I've never yet seen a classified ad that was selling animals killed for their body parts, I'm sure they'd get kicked off Kingsnake.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

I agree with you, that is horrible. I used to feed ackies to one of my lace monitors when he was smaller, but that is different because he has to eat, after all!

Sounds like a bit of an expensive way to feed a monitor.

crocdoc2 Oct 30, 2003 05:30 AM

yeah, especially when he just steps on their heads like that

crocdoc2 Oct 30, 2003 04:49 PM

no one took my bait. It's a doctored photo

bengalensis Oct 30, 2003 04:59 PM

I think that maybe people were too shocked and disturbed to reply! You sick ba$tard!

crocdoc2 Oct 30, 2003 07:12 PM
