Beardie Freaks when exposed to the SUN

Murphy1701 Oct 29, 2003 01:45 PM

Hi,

I'm new to posting on this forum, but I have been reading it for a long time.

Whenever I take my beardie outside to bask in the natural sun, he freaks out, tries to hide, then when I put him back i his cages he hides. He sits on my leg or inbetween my legs on the grass, in half shade half sun. It was about 85F yesterday in Sac, CA at about noon. He has one powersun uv 100w and one uva 100w in his 80 gallon cage. Is he getting to hot, or is he afraid of outside as he was moving his head wherever there was a sound like a bird or a car?

Just an opinion, but it sounds like your beardie is afraid and intimidated by the environment. It will probably take time for him to adjust to such an open environment and feel secure.

thats a baby's natural response in the open, in the wild they stay in trees and hiding much of the time when not basking in trees and brushes.

You might want to try him in an enclosure like a reptarium where he has some security

I agree. I keep Telamon in a reptarium when I set him outside to bask. I leave half in the shade, half in the strong sunshine. He will ususally climb up the side and hang there and enjoy the sun.
