Anyone heard of De Flea Reptile Relief?

cito Oct 29, 2003 02:30 PM

I got something for the mites at a petstore that this guy suggested. He said he used it with great success and his breeder recommended it highly, its called De Flea Reptile Relief. It supposivley kills mites on contact, he said it was highly toxic and if it were to get into the snakes eyes, nostrils, or mouth, he was basically dead. He said to apply it on the snake, wait for about 10 seconds, then rinse it off with warm water, and also apply it to the cage and then wash the cage. Any1 heard of it? good or bad?

Havent heard anything bad about it but have heard it works fairly well and as far as i know isnt supposed to be toxic at all.Its supposed to be an all natural, non chemical based solution to getting rid of mites. If it was that toxic to snakes then they wouldnt be selling it, or would they?I use provent a mite and havent had no probs yet even though i was sceptical at first.I've heard that diluted nix works great for mites.Regards Bill McLeod

where can i get provent a mite? Is online the only way? How long can the mites stay on before they become a serious problem. I also found a line, about an inch long on the belly of the snake, it seems to be a cut, but it looks kinda natural, not a rodent bite or anything, just where the skin comes apart. Would mites have caused this?

I Can't help you on where to get the pro-vent-mite besides on line but that line you speak of. Let me describe it it is on the belly of the snake in a straight line cover three or four belly scales, and it is located about thre quarters of the way towards the tail. That is the snakes equivelent of their belly button and it is where they were attached to the yolk sack whil ein the egg. Buy the time the snake is a year or so you will hardly be able to see it. Nothing to worry about there, Todd

I've used this product and in my experience it seems to work well. I remember hearing a sales representative from this product at a show; when questioned about the toxicity of the product, he actually said he would drink some if people were in doubt, and I think he might have if I remember correctly.

When using it, I apply it to the snake and leave the snake in a Sterilite container for about 1 hour. I then soak the snake in water for about 5 minutes. You will see the dead mites in the water. The label says to use it no more than every 3 days, but I have used it twice a day and was able to get rid of mites within 4 days. You also must remember to clean the enclosure. You can actually clean the enclosure with the product. I have sprayed the product on the complete body of the snake's that I've treated, including the face. I have not witnessed any problems. Remember, mites love to hide in the heat pits of snake's. I don't think the directions indicate soaking the snake as part of the treatment, but it helps to remove the dead mites and also the spray that is on the face of the snake.

I bought a burmese from a petstore which had some mites. Before I took her home, i had the saLESPERSON TO SPRAY HER WITH SOME MITE STUFF AND REPTILE RELIEF WAS THE ONLY THING THEY HAD. (oops, sorry for caps). He also sprayed the bag that i took her home in. Well, i dont think it worked very well, because i still have mites. I just ordered provent a mite a couple days ago but i had to go buy some reptile reflief until it came in. My burm isn't bad but even after a second time with reptile relief, she still has mites. I cleaned her cage from top to bottom. I even sprayed some of the reptile relief in her cage to kill any mites that were trying to escape. So, from what I've been hearing about provent-a-mite, i would order some ASAP. I'm also going to start using sevin dust when ever she gets through shedding. Sure reptile relief might kill mites on contact, but from my experience with it, it doesn't kill them all. good luck.
