I just rescued a red tail boa last night from a lady that could no longer care for her. She's 7 years old and 7 feet long. I don't think she was being kept warm enough (75 degrees) and she developed a respiratory infection that was treated a few months ago. Once in a while when she expells her breath, it will sound a little raspy. Almost like a hiss but not quite. The owner said that she's done this for a while and wasn't sure what to do about it. I know I need to get her temps up to about 85 and 95 in her basking area. That would probably help. I was just hoping that someone here would have experience with this sort of thing.
Also, she's eating well. I just saw her eat two large rats last night. She's got a great appetite.
Any ideas what the hissy/raspy breathing could be?
Thanks,
Veronica
