Optimal humidity levels for eggs?...

Magnum May 29, 2003 06:59 PM

OMG having your first clutch of eggs is a thrill...
...but I just have a few questions. We put our eggs in a tupperwear container with about a 12-15 or so pin sized holes in the lid...we slightly dampened the vermiculite and almost completely buried the eggs..just wondering what the humidity level should be in the container?...and should the humidity level remain the same throughout the whole incubation period?...

I don't think I've seen anyone talk specifically about humidity levels...but here is a good site if you haven't already found it. There is lots of great stuff to read here.

go to: http://www.kingsnake.com/uromastyx/
then click on...

Oops...thats too moist!
Very likely your eggs will die soon under these conditions.
Relative humidity of the air in the container should be between 70 and 80 %. But the vermiculite surrounding the eggs has to be almost completely dry. Thats really important!!!!
The younger the eggs, the less dangerous is too high humidity, but moist substrate sooner or later kills the eggs, if it comes into direct contact.

Hope that helps
