Maximum humidity for a Scarlet Kingsnake

cod6545 Oct 29, 2003 04:24 PM

Hey- I'm currently housing my Scarlet in a vivarium usually used for Dart Frogs. He loves it! If I take him from his normal cage, he always tries to get in the viv, even if it is across the room. The problem is humidity. It stays at 95- 100% day and night. Is this to much for him? Thanks. Brooks

While they do love to be in the moist stuff, be mindful and keep an eye on him for skin problems. I keep mine fairly dry and also provide a moist hide for them. It will help with shedding etc. I would keep a close watch for any problems and at least give him a place to "dry out".

These guys love the humidity so much that by the time you notice skin problems it can be too late. The hot spot should be sufficiently warm enough and big enough so that he can bask quickly while drying out. Often if the spot isnt hot enough they wont stay long enough to dry because they are so wary about using cover.Jeff

I'll second that one, Jeff.
