Mating Grey Treefrogs

mindlessness May 29, 2003 07:03 PM

Hello there.I have 5 grey treefrogs right now, and two of them are mating. Well I guess that there's one female and 3 male, unsure about the other one, because the female has been jumping around nonstop-with the male attached to her-while the others chirp trying to either get away from the noise of the chirps or to get with one of the two loudest ones. Anyway...theyve been together for about 45 minutes that I know of and I researched reproduction-but with little luck. All the info I found says that they mate in early spring and the eggs are hatched 4-5 days later. How long until the eggs are laid tho?also....I'm worried the other frogs will eat the eggs-is this a concern?thank you.

Seeing as the same thing happened to me, but I ended up loosing the eggs because I couldn't get help in a forum that is supposed to be of help. But from what I know...what your experiencing with your frogs is called an amplexus, the coupling of the male with the female. They will not however lay any eggs untill you provide them with a sutable water tray/dish for them to lay their eggs into. I placed mine into a 10 gallon tank with a couple of inches of aged water, they layed several hundred eggs that night. Now from their on...I haven't been able to get any info, other than they should hatch withing a week kept in water from 70-80 degrees...to low, they hatch slow, or don't hatch...too warm, deformities or again, no hatch. But the exacts I don't know. Hope this helps you!

EGGIES.my treefrogs ended up laying eggs after all.yey.now i need to know how to keep em alive...i have quite a few and i was planning on moving them to a separate tank but im weary of injuring them...also....how deep should the water they are kept in be/i know the temp needs to be about 70-75-80 degrees and i have an undertank heater for it but im still unsure about water depth.also...if im lucky enough to hatch some, what do i feed them thanx bunches.
