mold on driftwood

mbmcewen Oct 29, 2003 06:04 PM

I have read that mold in a new tank is not uncommon. I have little spots of green mold on a piece of driftwood in my tank. The pieces were bought from ebay froma guy claiming they are cypress....If they aren't, and the mold is from another type of wood....how will I know or how long should I give it?

Thanks,

How long has it been in your tank?

Im not sure, i personally think it might not be cyrpus if its molding. I got some driftwood from a local lake back in july and neither of those pieces have had mold on them. (i dont know what kind of wood they are either). As an experimant i put in a piece of grapewood and it molding pretty good withen 2 days.

If it keeps molding I would consider taking it out. How often is it misted?

It has been sprayed once a day for about a week. Thankfully, the wood with the water feature is not molding....hopefully it won't. The guy I bought the wood from said he picked it personally from a cypress swamp in LA., but could not confirm that the wood was cypress....I took a chance.

Do you have easy access to cypress drifwood?

I also have a great deal of mold on one of my wood, but its only one of them, and I foamed it on the back of my tank, plus my waterfall runs on it also. It mold toxic to any of them?

The cypress drift wood in my tank is molding too. I just finished putting the tank together about a month or so ago and it still hasn't gone away.
hey what ever you find out about it let me know.
